Practice really does make perfect. Saturday I spoke to a TON of people in Milwaukee at the 150 year anniversary of the Greater Milwaukee YMCA. Although I'm definitely not perfect at public speaking I'm getting better at it every time I speak. I love doing things and watching my progress as I keep working and get more and more experience at it. I find it exciting to see how every crowd is different, how my diction varies, and the rush I get from becoming enthusiastic and animated throughout the talk. The audience's response was great on Saturday night and gives me immense confidence moving forward!

That's really awesome Garrett!!!! Public Speaking was never really my thing, but taking it in high school I had soo much fun...I wish I could do that...
i was there listening to you speak and was shocked at the content of your speech. i overlooked your speaking a mile a minute only to learn i was hearing an infomercial for your low salt food products. then no thanks to the y for your start in swimming at their big event - you slam them instead by talking about all the 'crappy pools in wisconsin', no doubt many which were ymca pools. we learned all about you high blood presure as well, but it was never tied into the ymca - nothing you spoke about was tied back to the y in any manner. a big let down.
hmmmm...I'm not sure what speech you were watching but it surely doesn't sound like the one I gave??? I got a lot of positive response about my speech. If you were listening to 'me' speak you would remember I spoke about starting my YMCA experience at the Wauwatosa YMCA and eventually moving over to the Schroeder YMCA. I never really swam in any crappy pools in Wisconsin seeing as most of my time was spent at Nicolet and/or Schroeder which are both excellent facilities. In terms of tying my high blood pressure back in with the YMCA I remarked on how the support I received from family and friends really made my battle feasible to overcome. With the help of so many, I made my dream come true. I finished by asking everyone to live up to the values my coach preaches that are so much in keeping with the fundamental beliefs of the y...supporting the community and helping one another. If you're still disappointed after all that then all I can say is "I'm sorry."
