I'm a Godfather

I am now officially a Godfather. My Godson, Joe Roy Stapleton was baptized today at the United Methodist Church in Austin, Texas. I was a bit surprised at how short the ceremony was, five minutes. I really didn't know quite what to expect but it was very nice.

After the baptism we all went to the most amazing brunch at Fonda Son Miguel. This restaurant has a historic Sunday brunch that the New York Times once called one of the top 10 best brunches in American! The items consist of everything from different types of traditional Moles to corn pudding, pickled vegetables, guacamole, ceviche, and several wonderful desserts including the best tres leches cake I have ever had. I'm sure some of you are thinking, "he's eating dessert?" Yes I do eat desserts from time to time. Remember, the key to a healthy lifestyle is moderation and being consistent in both your diet and in exercise.

Tomorrow morning I will be getting up dark and early to head to my first morning practice of this new season. I'm not particularly looking forward to it but understand its importance in helping me get in the kind of shape that will help me succeed.

Having lived in Texas 7 years myself, I am proud to be able to say that Fonda Son Miguel has some of the BEST ceviche I've ever had!

I'm not as proud to say - thanks, Garrett, for making me crave FSM's ceviche. -_-'

But CONGRATS on being a Godfather! I'm sure you're super excited!!

I'm sure practice tomorrow will be fine - albeit a tad hard at first. :) We're all rootin' for you, and lookin' forward to you getting more fit as well!

((I've decided that it's your fault that I leave such long comments - if you wouldn't write blog posts with so much to comment on, my comments wouldn't be so long! :P))

Congrats on the godfather. You now have the right to spoil him and give him back to his parents. J/K only a little spoiling needed.
Hope the morning practice is going well.

Practice this morning was great. I feel so good right now.

Congratulations on being a godfather. What a blessing. Maybe in 2012 he can watch you in London!

Lauren Ashley - I usually write chapter-length comments too!

Hey Sarah!

Awwww, it's so nice to be missed! :=) You made my day! Feel free to visit my blog and give me a nudge if I disappear again!

So a foodie comment - for Thanksgiving this year, I'm going to Parilla in NYC! That is the restaurant started by the Season One winner of Top Chef. When I called to make the reservation, guess who answered the phone? HAROLD!! The chef!!!

Wow that is amazing...I'm interested to see how the food is, let me know.

I'm going to NYC this weekend for the Golden Goggle awards and am looking for a place to go with my family on Sunday night...any ideas anybody?

I'm not sure of a specific place to try, but I have an idea on how to find a place.

If you look at http://www.menupages.com, you will find a website with menus for restaurants in Manhattan. You can search by restaurant name, cuisine or neighborhood. Then you can pull up the menu and read reviews. Looking at menus can be addictive so don't start this too late or you won't want to get up for practice!

Just for yuks, here is the website for the place I'm going to on Thanksgiving: http://www.perillanyc.com/

Here's the Thanksgiving menu:

Right now I'm leaning toward the Roasted Black Trumpet Soup, Grilled Black Angus Steak, Spiced Purple Yams, and Spiced Pumpkin Cheesecake!

Thanks. I will definitely check it out!

That all sounds fun to try. Here we are sticking to the same ol thing of deep fried turkey along with a oven roasted one. Lot of friends and family for thanksgiving. We tend to all wonder in and out of my aunts house on that day of good food and thanks. Hope everyone has a good time when it rolls around.

Aw, come on! Not even one little pun about Marlon Brando/Al Pacino? How could you resist?

On a slightly more serious note, congratulations! It's such an honor to be asked to play that role in a child's life. I'm sure you'll be awesome (plus, how many kids can say that their godparent is an Olympic swimmer? You totally get bonus points for how cool that is ;) ).

On the NYC food quest, I've never been there, but I've always wanted to go to the Spotted Pig, a gastropub that I believe is in the Village. The food is supposed to be phenomenal.

Miss Melanie - OH THANK GOD!! It's not just me!! :)

I just remembered a place you could try. I ate there on May 10.

Spring Street Natural Restaurant - 62 Spring Street, corner of Lafayette. www.springstreetnatural.com, 212-966-0290. Vegan, vegetarian, and "regular" food. Atmosphere is bistro-ish, with similar decor as Balthazar (your sister will probably know what Balthazar is like) but less crazy crowds.

thanks for the idea...i will check it out.

You are going to be great godfather to Joe Roy, you are both obviously crazy about each other!

Garrett....Fonda brunch on top of what you had at the football game!? (I won't "out" you to your fans by listing your game diet).

That photo better be extra motivational!

Garrett said...

Kirsten...you better not "out" me...I only had a little pizza and a corn dog...it was at the Texas football game. What else can you expect? I do love Joe Roy!

Melanie L said...

Calories consumed at a football game do not count!! Mmmm... Corndogs... I bet they'd be good dipped in pancake syrup!

So can we get "Team GWG" stuff to wear to show our support?

LUCY said...

What is the latest news on the GWG T-shirts?

Delia said...

you arrive saturday? haha i will be in the city that day... give me a call ( yeah right!! )

i'm sure the awards are going to be lots of fun, can't wait to see pics.... thought about going but wow too expensive.

Garrett said...

I love corndogs!

You will be able to purchase GWG t-shirts in the next couple weeks...

I will put a post up when they become available.
