Skinny Cow Will Not Defeat This Stallion

Dessert. Wow do I love it. I have an unbelievable sweet tooth. There is nothing better than an incredible piece of my Grandma's homemade rhubarb pie for breakfast (that only happens once or twice a year though...after a huge meet). Most of the year I'm pretty good about keeping desserts in moderation. However, it is very hard.
So I've been having this problem the past week or so. When my mom was down here she bought a pack of Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches. I realize they are the healthy ice cream desserts but it doesn't matter. I told myself that when my mom left I was done with desserts until after World Championships. This sleeve of Skinny Cows is killing me. Twice this past week I've gone down to the freezer and looked at them. Both times my roommate was around and said, "Dude I thought you're done with desserts???" AAAhhhhhhhh this kills me. I tell him, "I am but these just look sooooo good." I still haven't touched them. They are my arch nemesis. He asked me if I wanted him to eat them. Originally I told him yes. However, I have reconsidered and told him no. I want them to sit in their and rot. I'm not touching them. I'm going to prove to myself that I'm the stronger one. Skinny Cow will not defeat me hahaha:)

I do the dessert thing for a several reasons. I originally started doing it when I heard of an Olympian in the 1980's who did it and ended up having an incredible Olympics. I thought I may as well give it a try. I've had great meets without having dessert for a long time before them so it has definitely worked in the past. I tend not to fix things that work beautifully (maybe only alter them to make them better). Lastly, I'm not the most cut sprinter in the world. I'm certainly not fat but washboard abs are not in my bio. Basically, eating dessert will give me no added benefit in what I'm trying to do so I cut it out. I don't need it. This is just one more little piece of ammunition I give my mind going into the big meets.
Some might call this tactic stupid and ridiculous. Go ahead. I'm not telling anyone to do it. I'm simply saying it has worked for me. You'll find that every athlete does things differently...what matters is the outcome at the end...and for that, there is no room for error. NO DESSERT FOR ME

I had apple pie for breakfast (no, I'm not proud of it), and you're making me feel bad!

I feel like you've got a ton more willpower than I can ever hope to have. The only thing I've ever successfully cut from my diet were Pop-Tarts about 6 years ago, haha. Still going strong on that... It's a big accomplishment.

Yeah, I can remember swim meets when raisins and water were my staple for energy. These days I love anything tart or dark chocolate. I do manage to cut a sweet kick by substituting grapes and strawberries, the tartness is my favorite thing.
WILL POWER ROCKS!

I love your pictures...very nicely random..and the blog was awesome...Will power is key to the ultimate prize...Oh, I have cut desserts and sweets completely from my diet because my Dad was just diagnosed with diabetes so I am supporting him and not eating sugar and all those sweets.

I'm right there with you on the pie for beakfast thing. My favourite breakfast is apple crumble! I make the crumble using oates and try not too use too much butter, flavor with spices then turn away when I put the sugar in, so in my mind it's healthy!! ha ha I'm deluded.

You've inspired me maybe I'll try to cut desserts out until I go watch the champs in Rome. I've heard Italian Ice-cream is to die for.

Good Luck!!!

You are a great writer, great athlete and funny to boot. You make us proud everyday. I'll buy you the biggest Birthday desert you have ever had, after World Champs. dwlvsyou

Any time you need to get a dessert, feel free to bring it by our house.

I meant "get rid of" a dessert. Or if you just want us to store it for safekeeping....

I really loved the second pic...trying to kill skinny cow...hum...lol

Now for real...do what you got to do...whatever that makes you feel good and makes you swim faster do it.

Ps. Let your roomate eat the skinny cow...don't waste it...although while he's eating it he might give you that look of " It's so good!!"

Try eating grapefruit...it always satisfies my sweet tooth (especially after dinner. Or since you are an athlete...try this stuff called Bio-K. My blood type is O+ so my body needs more protein and when I am craving sweets, that is the biggest sign I need protein. Bio-K is not too sweet but is rich in protein so it gives you just the right amount of sweet to keep you happy and replenishes your body with protein (to keep you healthy)....or you can just chew gum...that helps alot!

I have given up a lot of different food while training right now. I really love all food but I am lucky to be able to turn most of my cravings off.
But the hardest for me is beer, I really love having a really good quality beer every once in a while. But it seems so counterproductive to kill yourself in the pool for a 2 hours and then come home and drink a beer.

As for the grapefruits I live in florida and have three huge ruby red trees in my backyard. we eat a lot of them juice even more of them and turn a lot into sorbet, but it is a losing battle.

Well, if you can't have dessert, I suppose you can always have some more of them beans!

Italy...just shop for clothes there...Italian designers are a joke...Donatella Versace is the perfect example. You will love Italy though...and the desserts too and to make you feel better about the carbs...it is not America so there are not American sizes..just small portions to enjoy a treat with out feeling bad. Also try the gum too... it makes your body think it is eating something sugary but in reality it is not...
Enjoy!

Skinny Cow huh? I've got to try those....oops lost track. I meant to try and help you deter from eating dessert but having a major sweet tooth myself, it's hard but not impossible. I have like a cup of mixed mini Hershey candy in a little tin cup at my desk and it will be about a year before I touch one. I swear to you! And man do I love me some chocolate. But be strong. You've got to grab it by the horns and fight the urge. Wish I was there to tell you, "Close the door and back away from the freezer." Godspeed. You got this. (Sidenote on Italy: you have to try the hazelnut gelato. It is just absolutely delicious.) :P

I'm pretty sure these things contain crack. I've bought two packs in the last 6 months and they've both disappeared within days. When they're in the house I wake up craving them! Something is not right.

Skinny Cows are phenomenal. I have them in my freezer as well...honestly, there's MUCH WORSE you could be eating for dessert than Skinny Cow. They always say don't deprive or you'll go crazy and devour an entire package. Go ahead...don't fear the Cow. : )
