The Summer of My Life

This past summer was absolutely the most fulfilling, exciting, pleasurable and down right fun summer of my entire life. I want to share these special memories with all of you.

The summer started with my graduation from the University of Texas. I then went to Omaha for the Olympic Trials. From Omaha the Olympic team traveled to Palo Alto, California for an Olympic training camp. We continued our Olympic training camp in Singapore and finally went on to Beijing for the Olympic games. This is the time-line of my summer.

Remember this is a blog, part of this must consist of a dialogue between you(the readers) and me(the author). Post comments on the coming blogs. Ask me questions, tell me your thoughts. I want to know what you have questions about and what you're interested in.

Stay tuned as I begin to write about all the experiences that made this summer so spectacular!

GWG -

I am going to Nicolet tonight for a non conference Dual Meet with Mr. Davis. I am coaching Waukesha North/Kettle Moraine now. Swimming with 4 entries per event tonight for a dual. Not to often that happens.

Got anything you want me to pass onto Dwight?

I will definitely give you guys some explanation of what being on the team was like, and about the athletes.

I found Singapore to be absolutely beautiful. More detail on this in later blogs.

You're going back to my old high school! Hopefully it will be a good meet. Tell Davis I will see him at the Alumni Meet!

Garrett-Im curious to know how the atmosphere at the Olympic Village was-I mean, I'm an athlete and I know how the mood is before a big meet but seriously-this was THE OLYMPICS-much bigger and everyone was at the top of their sport. This couldn't possibly have seemed like 'just another meet'. I'd love to hear your perspective.

Garrett- you were great this summer- what has been the hardest thing that you have had to over come in your swimming career?

You won 2 gold metals on the relays, were you at all disappointed with your individual event swims?

The atmosphere at the Olympics is unbelievable. Everyone was very focused and excited about competing. However, as athletes, we must remember that it is just another competition...

The hardest thing for me to overcome is injury. Luckily I haven't had any really serious injuries that have required surgery. Injury strains the mind just as much if not more than it does the body.

I was very disappointed in my individual performances in Beijing. There will be blogs about this in the future.

Wow. I'd probly be still on a high from graduating, then getting a gold medal at the Olympics. I'd say that was a truly cool summmer.
